Michael Miller, MD

Department Chair, Professor of Plastic Surgery

Special Interest: Breast Reconstruction and Reconstructive Surgery After Cancer

Dr. Michael J. Miller is a board-certified surgeon and Professor of Surgery in The Ohio State University Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also the Chair of the Department of Plastic Surgery, and has a special interest in breast reconstruction and reconstructive surgery after cancer. Dr. Miller is experienced with a variety of breast reconstruction techniques, and is also proficient with sarcoma reconstruction and breast augmentation procedures. His research interests include tissue repair and regeneration, as well as advanced technology in clinical surgery. Dr. Miller has been in practice for more than 20 years, and has been educated and trained at some of the most respected medical institutions in the nation.

Adriane Baylis, PhD, CCC-SLP

Assistant Professor

Assistant Professor of Clinical Plastic Surgery, Speech and Hearing Science, and Pediatrics

Special Interest: Velopharyngeal Dysfunction and Resonance Disorders

Adriane Baylis, PhD, CCC-SLP, is a speech scientist, craniofacial speech pathologist and director of the Velopharyngeal Dysfunction Program. She is also Assistant Professor of Clinical Plastic Surgery, Speech and Hearing Science, and Pediatrics at The Ohio State University. Her clinical interests include perceptual and instrumental assessment of velopharyngeal dysfunction in children with cleft palate and other craniofacial anomalies. Her research focuses on meansurement of speech outcomes in children with cleft palate and the multifactorial nature of speech disorders and velopharyngeal dysfunction in 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. Dr. Baylis is affiliated with both The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

David Cabiling, MD

Rajiv Chandawarkar, MD

Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery

Special Interest: Surgical Oncology and Microsurgical Reconstructive Surgery

Dr. Chandawarkar received his Master of Surgery from the University of Bombay, India. Following his medical degree, he completed an internship at the University of Bombay residency in surgery at Tata Memorial Hospital. He completed two fellowships in surgical oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital and Kurume University in Japan. Subsequently he completed a research fellowship in head and neck oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York. Dr. Chandawarkar completed general surgery and plastic surgery residencies at Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio, and at the Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine. He also completed microsurgical reconstructive surgery fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Albert Chao, MD

Assistant Professor of Clinical Plastic Surgery

Special Interest: Cancer and Trauma Reconstruction, Breast Reconstruction and Microsurgery

Dr. Albert Chao is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery here at the OSU Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is a board-certified surgeon, specialty-trained in Plastic Surgery and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery, and has specialty interests in cancer and trauma reconstruction, as well as free flap breast reconstruction (TRAM, DIEP, and SIEA), microsurgery, and implant breast reconstruction. Dr. Chao is experienced with a number of reconstructive surgery techniques, and has been educated and trained in some of the most respected medical institutions in the world, including the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and the Plastic Surgery Residency Program at Washington University in St. Louis.

David Dean, PhD

Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery

David Dean received his Ph.D. degree from the City University of New York in 1993. Following a two year Post-doctoral appointment in the Institute for Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at the New York University he joined the faculty of the School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio. In 2013 his primary appointment transferred from the Department of Neurological Surgery at CWRU to The Ohio State University where he is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery and a member of the Center for Regenerative Medicine and Cell-Based Therapies.

Sonu Jain, MD

Assistant Professor of Clinical Plastic Surgery

Special Interest: Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation

Dr. Sonu Jain is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Plastic Surgery at OSU. His specialty interests focus on treatment of conditions of the hand, wrist and upper extremities, including arthritis, tendonitis, neuropathy, trauma, compression and skin cancer. Dr. Jain is board certified in both plastic surgery and otolaryngology.

Dr. Jeffrey Janis is a Clinical Professor and the Executive Vice Chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at The Ohio State University. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of several prestigious medical organizations. His specialty and research interests include complex reconstruction of the abdominal wall, treatment of migraine headaches with BOTOX® injections and surgery, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, and educating the next generation of plastic surgeons.

Robert Ruberg, MD

Dr. Robert L. Ruberg is a Professor of Surgery and Senior Vice Chairman for Academic and Administrative Affairs in the Department of Surgery. He also the Interim Vice Dean for Eduction at the OSU College of Medicine. Dr. Ruberg has specialty training from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. His specialty interests include breast surgery and children’s plastic surgery, and his research interests encompass plastic surgery education and curriculum development. Dr. Ruberg has personally trained a large number of successful plastic surgeons now practicing throughout the U.S., and been a crucial part of the OSU Division of Plastic Surgery and the Department of Surgery for many years.

Special Interest: Oncological Reconstructive Surgery, Microsurgery, Lymphedema Surgery

Dr. Roman Skoracki is a professor of plastic surgery at the OSU Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Skoracki also serves as the chief of the division of reconstructive oncological plastic surgery. He board certified by the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, and is one of only two surgeons in the country currently performing microvascular surgical procedures to treat the effects of lymphedema in cancer patients.

Ian Valerio, MD, MS, MBA, FACS

Associate Professor of Clinical Plastic Surgery

A decorated military officer and accomplished surgeon, Dr. Ian Valerio is an Associate Professor of Clinical Plastic Surgery and Chief of the Division of Burn, Wound, and Trauma at the OSU Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Board-certified in plastic surgery, Dr. Valerio’s research and specialty interests include advanced regenerative medicine applications to the wounded warrior and in trauma care, peripheral nerve repair/restoration techniques, microsurgery, and other reconstruction strategies. Dr. Valerio, an Ohio native, has held other academic positions at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD.
