How do I know if hand surgery is the right treatment for me?
If you are experiencing pain and discomfort in your hands, if you have suffered traumatic injury or chronic conditions affecting the hands, or if you are becoming increasingly debilitated by pain in the hands, there are a number of surgical options that may be of benefit to your needs. Hand surgery can improve both form and function in your hands, help you regain strength, and lessen pain. There are also non-surgical options that may be effective as well. Our hand surgeon at the Ohio State University Department of Plastic Surgery will meet with you for an initial consultation to discuss prospective treatments.
Are hand and elbow surgeries covered by insurance?
Many insurance companies cover hand reconstruction surgery and treatments for elbow conditions. One of our team members will be happy to help you through the insurance process to determine if you have coverage.
I work in a job or engage in activities that require excessive repetitive motion, and I’ve been experiencing discomfort in my hands and/or elbows. What could be wrong?
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Tennis Elbow, arthritis, and other conditions may be causing your symptoms. It is not uncommon for individuals who engage in repetitive motions at work or in other activities to develop these conditions. There are treatments available, both surgical and non-surgical, for patients experiencing hand, wrist, and elbow pain.
Are there treatments for arthritis?
Yes. Arthritis is an extremely common condition, and there are a variety of treatments available to lessen the effects. Options include topical or anti-inflammatory medications, splinting, injections, supplements, or surgery.
Can you restore the appearance of my hands in addition to functionality?
Yes. Part of our goal at the Ohio State University Department of Plastic Surgery’s Hand and Elbow Surgery Center is to not only improve the functionality of the affected areas, but also restore their appearance. Some hand conditions, particularly traumatic ones, result in disfigurement, and our doctors are highly skilled and experienced with procedures that can significantly improve the appearance of your hands.
