BOTOX® Cosmetic FAQ
BOTOX® Cosmetic remains one of the leading non-surgical treatments for facial rejuvenation at the OSU Department of Plastic Surgery. Below, our board-certified plastic surgeons answer some commonly asked questions about this popular injectable:
Is BOTOX® Cosmetic right for me?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is designed to reduce the appearance of facial aging, including fine lines and wrinkles. Common cosmetic concerns among candidates include lines across the forehead, creases between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, and frown lines.
Who performs the injections?
At OSU, all BOTOX® Cosmetic procedures are performed by one of our experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons. Their intimate knowledge of facial aesthetics can help ensure you achieve the results you desire without looking “overdone.”
How long is the BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure?
While the exact duration of the procedure will vary depending upon the number of treatment areas, most BOTOX® Cosmetic injections can be performed in about 15 minutes. Many of our patients choose to have the procedure performed during their lunch break or in between errands.
Do the injections hurt?
Before the procedure begins, the target area can be numbed using a topical agent. The needle itself is ultra-fine and most patients report little to no discomfort.
Is there any recovery or downtime?
Some patients may experience temporary redness or bruising at the injection site. These side effects typically dissipate quickly, should they occur. Most patients return to their normal daily activities immediately.
How soon will I notice results and how long will they last?
Most patients will achieve their final results with BOTOX® Cosmetic in approximately one week. This cosmetic injectable treatment typically last 3-6 months, and results can be maintained with follow up appointments.
