Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Facelift Surgery
Over the years, facelift surgery has continued to remain one of the most highly requested procedures for facial rejuvenation due to its efficacy and often long-lasting results. If you are considering this popular cosmetic option but desire to know a bit more prior to scheduling a consultation, our team of experienced plastic surgeons have provided answers to frequently asked questions about facelift surgery below.
What signs of aging can be treated?
Facelift surgery can be performed to reduce the appearance of line, wrinkles, folds, and creases on the face. Additionally, it can tighten sagging skin and help reduce jowling while enhancing the contour of the neck and jawline.
What is the procedure like?
Though the specific technique employed will depend on the patient’s unique needs and goals, facelift surgery traditionally involves the lifting of skin and tightening of underlying muscle tissues, as well as the excision of any excess skin. Incisions for traditional facelift surgery are made in discreet locations, typically extending from the temples (above the hairline) to the front or inside of the ear and back behind the earlobe. Often performed as an outpatient procedure, the entire operation takes approximately two to three hours to complete.
What is recovery like?
The recovery experience for facelift surgery will vary by individual, but most patients can expect some temporary swelling and/or bruising initially. Special bandages will need to be worn on the face for a few days, and your head should remain in an elevated position during this time to facilitate healing. Most patients are able to resume non-strenuous work and/or activities after about ten days, but exercise and heavy lifting will need to be avoided for at least two weeks.
Is there much pain after surgery?
Any pain/discomfort following facelift surgery is generally minimal and can typically be controlled with medication.
When will the final results become apparent?
Final results from facelift surgery often become apparent within a few weeks.
